Circa 1990’s when grunge rock was popular and i was in my teen’s, i enjoyed listening to famous grunge rock bands ( i even do now!!). Ugly Kid Joe or UKJ, was a commercially successful band in the 90’s that mixed hard rock with satirical humor. Their album covers had cartoon images on them, unlike the death and sombre images of heavy metal back album covers.
Back then cassette tapes were the only source of music, and i saved up money to buy a select few. It would cost me around 50 Indian rupees, and every new tape played on my music system for at least 2 months until i memorized the song sequences ( and even the silent intervals between songs) on each side of the type. I remember buying UKJ’s “America’s least wanted” and “Menace to Sobriety” albums, i thoroughly enjoyed both albums. “Cats in the cradle” was a hit from the ” America’s least wanted” album – this was a cover song of the original performed by Harry Chapin
As per http://www.myspace.com/uglykidjoetheband the band is back and uglier than ever!! – That’s something to look forward too, hopefully the new songs bring back the memories of the grungy nineties.
The reason i started writing this is because, we have an adorable cat visiting home. Cats were on my mind, and i thought it would be great to write about my favorite band and favorite animal.
After my last lukewarm attempt at blogging( http://elysianfieldz.blogspot.com/ )and many months of procrastination i finally decided to start a brand new – fresh looking blog. The thought occurred to me on New Year’s day 2011, and thanks to some creative energy , i managed to coin a rather ‘catchy’ name to my blog. This will be my drawing board for writing about my varied interests ( technology, math, royal enfield bullets, book reviews, cooking & cartooning) and hopefully i could be a muse to somebody out there.
